Short Bio

Originally from Mexico City, Iván began his classical guitar journey at the Escuela Superior de Música del Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes. He furthered his studies in Chicago under maestros Norman Ruiz and Denis Azabagic, earning his bachelor’s degree with honors from Roosevelt University. Iván has honed his craft through masterclasses with renowned figures like Eliot Fisk and Sergio Assad. His accolades include thirteen international awards across competitions in Mexico, the United States, and Europe.

As a soloist, Iván has graced stages worldwide, from Jordan Hall in Boston to the Teatro Gran Mariscal in Sucre, Bolivia. His performances have been featured on esteemed platforms like Univision Chicago and ABC News. Iván’s album “Tales of the Journey” pays homage to the undocumented Latin community, showcasing a diverse repertoire and original compositions. He also collaborates with local Chicago artists, notably on the socially conscious album “Pinsel Soundtrack 2.”

Beyond performing, Iván directs the Latin American Guitar Festival of Chicago and teaches classical guitar at Muchin College and Orozco Community Academy of Arts. He contributes to Lead Guitar’s mission of providing music education in public schools and pursues his master’s studies at Roosevelt University. Additionally, Iván runs his own guitar studio, offering affordable private lessons to the community.
